Siri (red pepper) ice cream

Reference: GMA Network
Along with its strange appearance, the combination of chili and ice cream is becoming more popular with locals and tourists. This unusual color is colored with the mellow cream and food of Sirin Labuyo (a small chili pepper often found in the region).
Don’t be fooled by the pure pink color of bubble gum. Because this ice cream gives a strong blow. The spiciness ranges from 1 to 10 levels, so it’s good to be modest or take the plunge. You can have a sweet and painful experience with a bite.
This regional dish can be enjoyed not only in the city, but at any of the Colonial Grill shops in Bicol. Haruyo and Tadayuki also tasted in Legazpi.

Pinangat

There are two types of Pinangat that are popular in the Philippines. One is a soup of sour fish using camias, tamarind or vinegar, which is authentic Bicol. The second is lemongrass, ginger and mashed coconut pulp, and sometimes shredded crab meat or catfish ingredients wrapped in taro leaves, tied with a string to prevent spillage. I am. It is made by boiling this in spicy coconut milk until it becomes thick.
Tip: When buying in the market, it’s a good idea to tell the seller whether it’s spicy or normal. Please note that some of the ingredients of Pinangat are especially spicy.
Bicol Express

One of the most famous dishes in the region, not just Legazpi, is Bicol Express. Coconut milk and a large amount of chili show what Bicol is like. It contains pork and shrimp paste cooked in coconut milk, and, as expected, a small amount of chili.
You can also enjoy Bicol Express at Graceland, all Colonial Grill stores, and local dining rooms. There is no doubt that you will be satisfied when you want to eat something spicy and creamy!

Similar to candide peanuts, pili nuts are one of the perfect bicol souvenirs to give to friends and family.
Candide pili nuts are coated with sugar, so they have a crispy texture and almost melt in the mouth. There are various recipes, such as sugar and crispy pili, sea salt and chili flakes and pili nuts, and plain baked pili nuts. Nut shells are used or sold in the area as key chains.

Kinunot

If you’re on vacation in Legazpi, there’s no reason not to try this unusual dish. Kinunot is made from coconut mill milk, Marungay leaves (moringa) and chopped manta rays, known as the culinary star. Shark meat may be used as a substitute for manta rays in other recipes.
This dish is easy to make and very tasty and delicious, making it a real star to the locals.
Linubak

This Kakanin dish is made by mixing ground cassava, banana, or taro with sugar and coconut milk. It has a creamy texture and is sticky, so it is sprinkled with margarine-coated peanuts or finely chopped coconut pulp to add texture.
If you’re wondering where to eat, get up early in the morning as local vendors only sell Linubak at the market. If you can’t find it, you may try to leave your luck in the afternoon.
Puton Bokayo

Puton Bokayo is a soft rice cake filled with sweetened coconut pulp, locally known as “Bokayo”. It’s very simple to make. In a small coconut shell, add a mixture of rice flour and sugar little by little. Just put this in the steamer set.

Outside of Legazpi, different varieties are becoming more famous. Ligao is famous for its macapuno rice cake. Unlike the standard Puton Bokayo, you put Ube in the rice cake and use sweet macapuno or coconut as the contents. It can be tasted in Ligao city, nowhere else.
When you eat a bite, you will feel the soft and squishy texture of steamed bread and the sweetness of coconut. Please note that sometimes the steamed bread is literally fresh. However, I personally recommend eating it while it is warm. Look for it near the market or association.
